In the current health context, people’s expectations are moving towards new hygienic standards. This also concerns the fabrics, which will have to protect the consumers more and more.
We offer an overview of the evolution of fabrics with antimicrobial performance. An emerging challenge for fabrics in the active world.
New standards are being set: antibacterial treatments are evolving towards antiviral treatments, whether they are based on new natural active ingredients or on more traditional zinc or copper additives.
1. Antiviral surface treatments
HWA FUNE / LDWR / Taiwan
LDWR is a treatment developed by Hwa Fune that not only extends the water repellency function, but also prevents the transmission of viruses and bacteria. Antibacterial in antiviral treatment. The active ingredient is a biocide made up of a reaction mass of titanium dioxide and silver chloride.
- Guaranteed up to 30 washes
- Reduction of viruses in 2 hours of time

HEIQ / VIROBLOCK / Switzerland
Antimicrobial silver and “vesicle” treatment. HeiQ vesicle technology targets lipid-enveloped viruses, such as coronaviruses, allowing their rapid deactivation, while HeiQ silver technology inhibits their replication. It’s a 99.99% effective treatment against Covid (withstands up to 30 washes at 60C°).

2. Traditional zinc, silver and copper additives
TECHNOW / Switzerland
With a 2% concentration of graphene, this textile guarantees protection against virus transmission and contamination.

VOLLEBAK / FULL METAL JACKET / UK
Full metal Jacket is an antimicrobial and antiviral protective jacket using the sanitizing properties of copper.
Beyond this conceptual jacket, it is interesting to note that the British company Promethean Particles is working on copper nano particles integrated into polymers for a durable and functional usage.
