New York fashion week has regained its vitality and optimism, with the coming back home of some big names like Rodarte or Tom Ford who shunned the Big Apple during the previous edition, but also with the highlighting of the work of several African-American designers. Italian Moschino has even chosen to present its new collection there, created by Jeremy Scott, its petulant American DA, who himself studied in New York in his younger years. Certainly, the dark shadow of September 11th came to hang over the city, but very quickly all eyes turned to the extravagant looks of the MET gala celebrating American fashion, concluding this New York fashion week as a happy ending. It’s called having a sense of timing!

DAZZLING TAILORING

Led by Tom Ford, this sparkling trend showcases intensely colorful and shiny tailoring, heralding the return of a hectic and glamorous social life. A jacket that shines, pink, green or blue whatever, and here is the big apple : at your feet!

GODDESSES AND VESTALS

Next spring, the streets of New York will be crowded with urban goddesses and charismatic vestals, all dressed in mystical white attire and cleverly asymmetrical contours. Long hieratic creatures, they conquered the catwalks. Even Rodarte goes for it. We can’t wait.

FUN NOSTALGIA

Flashy Moschino and offbeat Betsheva in the same trip, how we’d thought? Here they are united by the evocation of a smily and imaginary retro, a form of fun nostalgia that manages to unite such dissimilar labels. And which come together on an essential point: short lengh.

HELMUT & MARTIN

The shadow of Helmut Lang or Martin Margiela hangs over some New York collections on post 2000 mode, especially over this new generation of designers with a certain political conscience. If the body can be partly revealed, exposed, the result is not meant to be sexy but rather as a form of empowerment.

AND THE WINNER IS…

That’s him! Just crowned Designer of the Year, Peter Do is the one who most rethought and reconstructed the city silhouette, structured but supple, monastic and yet sensual. A work on the cut of the garment that can be put into perspective with the luxurious minimalism of The Row, initiated by the Olsen sisters.

BOLD FRINGES

What is the magic recipe that always works? Well, yes, the fringes do the job with joy and good humor. Especially since this season, there are no hippy or bohemian references. They look sleek and chic, designer fringes, and above all… in color. Bold fringes.
