A DRONE TO SAVE THE GREAT BARRIER REEF

While one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef suffers from global warming, an Australian robotic professor, Matthew Dunbabin offers a small coral-sowing robot, the LarvalBot, to facilitate its reproduction. After a harvest of eggs and coral sperm cultivated and incubated in the laboratory, this robot is in charge of dispersing the larvae in a preselected perimeter in order to repopulate the massif. CARLIN’S POINT OF VIEW: While the IPBES report has just warned us about the depletion of biodiversity in the world, coral survival is fundamental: according to WWF, there are nearly two million different species living in, on and around the coral reefs!

APPLE AUGMENTED REALITY GLASSES IN PROCESS?

After his departure, Jony Ive, the Apple’s mythical designer, “leaked” to the Wall Street Journal that teams were currently working on the design of augmented reality glasses. A surprise that is not really one because some rumors were circulating in the web for an exit in 2020. These glasses will allow its users to display virtual information directly on the glasses as their messages or notification thanks to ARKit, Apple’s augmented reality system. However, the chinses brand Vivo has anticipated Apple few days ago with its pair of augmented reality glasses. Sources : 01net.com,  The Wall Street Journal

CARLIN’S POINT OF VIEW: Since the failure of connected Google Glass releases in 2014, smart glasses AR may come back. Not so sure while an awareness of the issues related to the use of our data and digital images is emerging…

ROLLS-FILM THAT ARE WORTH GOLD!

Sometimes investments pay off. Gary George is the perfect example. Intern in 1976 at NASA, he had paid $ 217.77 for some rolls-film that the space agency wanted to get rid of. After the sale of some rolls on occasion he keeps those because of their labels as: «Appolo 11 EVA*». 50 years later, these film-rolls are auctioned in New York and are estimated at two million dollars. These reels pleased the release of Armstrong and Aldrin and their first steps on the moon! *”Extravehicular activity”  Source : techcrunch – le 26/03/2019

edge computing: the new area

In contrast to the cloud that sends data to be processed, with edge computing, calculations are made closer to their source, often directly in connected objects. If we take the example of the autonomous car, this technology consists in storing and analyzing the data in the vehicle, allowing it to make almost instantaneous decisions. A new era, that gives businesses more security and speed. Beyond the technological impact, it is the customer experience that will also be transformed. Thanks to the data collected, companies will be able to better understand their customers and offer more responsive and personalized content. Source : Le Figaro

THE PHONE OF THE FUTURE!

Samsung engineers are constantly on the lookout for something new. The South Korean group has filed a patent application for their next smartphone model that will be equipped with a roll-up slab. The patent discovered by Lets Go Digital, describes perfectly the system designed by Samsung. In addition to being retractable, the screen is also flexible. The owner would have the opportunity to roll it up, or unwind, according to his needs. After its deployment, the surface of the slab is three times larger. The user will ultimately have a real tablet at his disposal. Source : Lets go digital
