With its anti-establishment and subversive disposition, in its total-look version, leather became the arch enemy of the bourgeois capitalist order which looked on it disapprovingly.  Favored ally of punks and rebels, it defied patriarchal authority in the eighties and the conformity of the mainstream suit.  Worn by fetishists, it shocked late twentieth century morals from the depths of queer clubs with a wild atmosphere.
